What on Earth Is Corn Leather?
Corn leather is a buttery smooth leather alternative that continues to be a customer favorite among our vegan sneaker styles—including our brand-new SeaChange High Top.
We’re always on the lookout for innovative materials that can help us reduce our environmental footprint while meeting our high standards for comfort, style, and durability. Since we started our journey with corn leather in Spring ‘22, it continues to check all the boxes. We’ve since embraced corn leather across a range of slip on and lace up styles—from our SeaChange Slip On to our Melrose Lug Platform.
Season after season, our SeaChange LTT is a best seller, featuring a striking white corn leather upper, recycled cotton canvas lining, an outsole made with natural rubber and recycled rubber, and recycled polyester laces. Not only do we love the sleek look of corn leather, but it’s also easy to wipe clean (toothpaste works wonders).
Corn leather is a great option for our customers who are already committed to living a vegan lifestyle and those who are just starting to explore vegan leather alternatives. So, what goes into making this great material? Our corn leather is made with recycled and biobased materials: 42% biopolyols derived from non-GMO corn and cereals, 31% minerals and petroleum-derived chemicals, and 27% post-consumer recycled polyester.
Every season we’ll continue to make new strides in designing our shoes more responsibly. We've already incorporated recycled materials into every shoe we make. By exploring new material innovations like corn leather, we’re constantly pushing ourselves and the rest of the shoe business to find new ways to reduce our impact. Stay tuned for more exciting innovations coming your way.
