THE FOUNDERS EDITION

SeaVees x B.F. Goodrich

For the first time in 60 years, SeaVees and its original owner (B.F. Goodrich) have reunited on a stitch for stitch revival of our inaugural Yacht Shoe. All materials, components, and manufacturing methods have been carefully selected to be period correct. The only exception was our use of recycled tire rubber, a recent advancement that did not exist in the '60s. In doing so, this limited edition style honors our past while reflecting our present values of turning something old into something new to last another lifetime.

PLAYBOY MAGAZINE, JUNE 1964

The New Way To Go Casual

SeaVees advertisements began running in Playboy Magazine in June of 1964 as a new footwear brand that was positioned as “the new way to go casual”. It was intended to bridge the gap between dress shoes and gym shoes: a casual yet sophisticated sneaker that could be worn for any occasion.

You’ll see the characters in the advertisements depicted wearing SeaVees to the yacht club and rally car race—places where you’d typically be expected to wear more traditional footwear. With a strong emphasis on blending style and comfort, SeaVees was truly a pioneer in the upscale sneaker market.

The Details

Over the course of a year we painstakingly recreated every aspect of this shoe to be as close to the original as possible.

  • SIPED OUTSOLE

The Yacht Shoe features a non-marking siped outsole. What is a siped outsole? It's a sheet of rubber razor-cut with the wavy pattern you see here to create grip when it's flexed.

  • CENTERED HEEL SCAB

For the first time since the re-launch of the brand in 2008, we've put our signature wishbone logo centered on the back of the shoe as it was on the original pairs in 1964.

  • FOXING TREATMENT

We ensured the foxing treatment was as close to the original as possible-from the intentionally overlayed placement, to hand distressed rubber, and color matched painted pin lines.

  • VINTAGE TOE SHAPE

By far the most painstaking, and arguably most important element of the revival was creating a last that would accurately reflect the narrow and elongated toe shape.

  • EYELETS & LACES

We used premium aluminum eyelets that are hand sanded to capture the exact finish of the originals and chose a "bar lace" style to replicate how they were in the 1960s ads.

  • REPRODUCED PACKAGING

We recreated every aspect of the original packaging. Additionally, each box has been hand stamped to commemorate the specific date that it was made.
